Annex Vintage and General 54 are pleased to present
Block Party Vernissage
Thursday March 8th from 5-7pm
54 and 56 St-Viateur Ouest
Block Party is an innovative crawl format art show which connects 13 artists with 7 separate storefronts in the Mile End. The show runs for one week as part of the fantastic Concordia Art Matters festival.
The vernissage, co-hosted by General 54 and Annex Vintage, will feature art by Erik Naumann, Dan Vogt, Sandra Chirico, Emma Lightstone and Tiffany Blaise. There will be snacks, adult beverages, as well as a special live performance by Mozart's Sister (solo project for Caila Thompson-Hannant formerly of Think About Life). This is the first time the two stores have collaborated on an event, and we plan to do many more in the future!
We invite people to come by the stores, have a drink, admire the art and do the tour!

About the Block Party:
From the curator Aditi Ohri: "Block Party is one part meditation, one part exploration, and two parts celebration. It is an art show that invites every inhabitant and visitor of the Mile End to blur the lines between public space, art objects, and banal consumption. How can we visually represent the beauty of an aging building’s façade or attach a currency to the picturesque quality of a sun-kissed alleyway? What is the difference between a splendidly painted canvas and an eye-catching window display? How do we buy our identities and consume our neighbourhoods? Block Party examines how our individual consumer choices and relative purchasing powers affect the processes of urban renewal, gentrification, and decay. 13 artists present works that explore notions of urban space, personal identity, consumer culture and relational aesthetic in a show that crawls across the public and retail spaces of a uniquely textured neighbourhood. Most artworks are for sale."
Participating spaces: Annex Vintage (56 St-Viateur O.), Club Social (180 St Viateur O.), General 54 (54 St-Viateur O.), Monastiraki (5478 St-Laurent), Phonopolis (207 Bernard O.), Peut-etre (6029 Ave. du Parc), S.W. Welch's (225 St-Viateur O.)
